Description: This is an antique paint decorated slide lid compartment spice or apothecary box from New England circa 100s for your consideration. The antique slide lid spice box is handmade New England white pine. New England white pine was a popular wood for making household items like boxes by early colonists in the 1700s and was over harvested to the near point of extension by the early 1800s. The slide lid is chamfered with two finger notches for gripping while opening and closing the top. The sides of the antique slide lid apothecary box are mitered and finely dovetailed. The bottom board is attached with square nails. The inside of the antique slide lid spice box is fitted to make six compartments that were used to store spices, teas, and medicinal herbs. The antique slide lid apothecary box is painted in the traditional ochre burnt orange color that was so popular in New England.

Condition Report: Excellent condition with an age appropriate patina.
