More About this Item

Description: This is a New England Shaker silk handmade braided silk table rug circa 1800s for your consideration. The Shakers were the first to bring the silk worm to this country. The New England Shaker motto was "Hands to Work and Hearts to God". This is an exemplary display of the fine attention to detail that the New England Shakers lived their lives by day to day. The New England Shakers were known for their silk production and the sisters wore silk stockings. The Shaker table rug is made from the worn silk stockings that were no longer of use. Everything was put to use and nothing was wasted. The Shaker table rug was braided in an oval shape. The Shaker table rug is so well made with small tiny braids, tiny stitches, and with precision and accuracy. The antique Shaker silk miniature table rug is solid and firmly stitched and wrapped making this a rare and exceptional piece.
