Description: Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1400 CE. A fine mold-made blackware stirrup spout vessel, the body of an egg-like shape adorned with four panels, each depicting a standing figure with arms raised, a spear or club gripped in his left hand, and each lord or warrior donning a tumi headdress (the form adopted from crescent shaped ceremonial knife), all in relief against a stippled ground. Complementing this, the stirrup spout is adorned with an adorable bird, a sky animal believed to have been a messenger between humankind and the gods, perched at the juncture where the spout raises vertically. Size: 6.5" W x 9.375" H (16.5 cm x 23.8 cm)
