Looking for the realised and estimated price?

Description: Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A pair of standing flat figures, both wearing striped shirts, one wearing a skirt with red and black stripes. Both stand with hands at their hips and legs slightly apart; they also have similar faces with huge noses. Clay figures like this one are the only remains that we have today of a sophisticated and unique culture in West Mexico -- they made no above-ground monuments or sculptures, at least that we know of, which is in strong contrast to developments elsewhere in ancient Mesoamerica. Instead, their tombs were their lasting works of art: skeletons arrayed radially with their feet positioned inward, and clay offerings, like these, placed alongside the walls facing inward, near the skulls. Size of largest: 4.2" W x 7" H (10.7 cm x 17.8 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Peter Arnovick collection, San Francisco, CA

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#117622

Condition Report: Small losses/wear to the toes of the feet on the smaller figure, and to the heels of the larger figure (smaller figure is unable to stand on its own, but larger figure is). Both have some remaining pigment, and overall manganese staining
