Description: Artist: CHARLES LOUPOT (1892-1962) Size: 35 1/4 x 50 7/8 in./89.5 x 129.2 cm Lith. Säuberlin & Pfeiffer, Vevey "Whereas Loupot's first posters were drawn with the printer in mind, in this case we have testimonies of a direct relationship between the artist and the advertiser. Jean-Marie Loupout, who met Ch. Phillipossian in the Seventies, had confirmation of the meetings and friendly discussions that preceded the creation of [this poster]. Be that as it may be, the result is very felicitous ... As for the presence of the animal in the cigarette poster, it serves as a wink to the industrialist, a prominent amateur racehorse devotee (Loupot/Zagrodzki, p. 57). Thierry DeVynk points out that "the artist put the entire figure in the top half of the sheet: this Bedouin with slender fingers, with seductive eyes reminiscent of the silent film images, and the black horse all add to the Oriental feel." (Loupot/Lyon, N6). (great art deco)
