Description: Poe, Edgar Allan. THE MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE. [in] Graham's Lady's and Gentleman's Magazine. Volume XVIII. Philadelphia: George Graham, 1841. [Sold With] Volume XIX of the same. In addition to the above title, other Poe works which appear in these volumes include: Descent into the Maelstrum, Island of the Fay, Autography, Colloquy of Monos and Una, Never Bet Your Head, To Helen, and Israsel. 2 volumes in 8vo. Contents with numerous plates, many hand-colored. Bound uniformly in period red half-morocco. Bindings with some general light wear. Contents with the usual intermittent foxing in various places throughout (mostly on and adjacent to plates leaves and endpapers), a few closed tears and small marginal chips, a few leaves toned (particularly pastedowns and endpapers) and instances of other various stains, the leaves containing Poe's "Murders" are Very Good with some light toning and scattered foxing, overall Very Good. *************************************** The first appearance in print of Poe's "Murders in the Rue Morgue," regarded by many as the first detective story.
