The pendant lamp PH Louvre was designed by Danish designer Poul Henningsen for the Adventist's church in Skodsborg in 1958. It was made by Louis Poulsen. It has 13 ring-shaped metal lamellas which are white lacquered. These lamellas are arranged and adjusted in a way that provides completely glare-free and smooth light because each lamella reflects the light in the same angle. This special construction can be found in many of Henningsen's lamp designs.
The lamp comes with a single-light fixture. Its height is 115 cm with hanging, its diameter is 60 cm. It is in very good condition with minor signs of age and wear. A few lamellas are a little bent.
Poul Henningsen (1894-1967)
The Danish architect and designer Poul Henningsen was and is not only famous for his popular lamp designs. He was also an important figure of Danish cultural life between the two great wars. He studied architecture from 1911 until 1917 but never graduated. He designed the legendary PH lamp in 1925 which created exceedingly glare-free and smooth light. Famous designs like the Artichoke and PH5 followed in 1958. Besides Henningsen was also a successful author.
The Danish light manufacturer Louis Poulsen was founded by Ludvig R. Poulsen initially as a wine importing company in 1874. Later his nephew Louis Poulsen joined and they continued as a seller of tools and electrical supplies. As a result of the cooperation with Poul Henningsen since 1924 the company focused on the production of lightings. In addition to Poul Henningsen, there are several designers like Arne Jacobsen and Verner Panton who did designs for Louis Poulsen. The production continued until today.
