Description: HARDING, WARREN G. (1865-1923). Twenty-ninth president of the United States. Signed card headed by the gold embossed Great Seal of the United States. (“Warren G. Harding”). 1p. 12mo. N.p., N.d. ********** A Republican newspaper publisher, Harding served as Ohio’s governor and Senator before his 1920 election to the White House. Swept into office by a landslide victory, he oversaw the country’s prosperous post-war years, which were marked by increased employment and peace with the nation’s former foreign enemies. Despite being well liked, Harding’s presidency was marred by the Teapot Dome scandal and the conviction of corrupt appointees in the Justice Department, Veterans’ Bureau and other federal agencies. In 1923, he became the first U.S. president to visit the territory of Alaska, during his nationwide tour dubbed the “Voyage of Understanding.” The journey encompassed much of the Western U.S. and was so exhausting for the president that he became ill and died in San Francisco. ********** Bearing several paperclip impressions along the top left margin and one pin hole to the right of the seal. In fine condition.
