Description: Oil on slate. A portrait of the young prince on horseback in blued armour, holding a marshal's baton in his right hand, with a cavalry battle in the background. Unsigned. Princely inventory label on the back. Dimensions 23.5 x 19.5 cm. From the possessions of a southern German noble. Cf. the portrait of Prince von Gottfried Auerbach on horseback, at the Military Historical Museum in Vienna. Prince Eugen was one of Austria's most famous generals and from 1697 was commander in chief in the great Turkish War as well as commander in chief of the anti-French coalition in the war of the Spanish Succession. A fascinating and beautiful piece of art from the 18th century. Very charming 18th century work.
