Description: 14 July 1853 MICHIGAN. PHILADELPHIA PA. Shares of $25. black on blue paper. No 246. One of the early American mining pieces. The company was formed in Michigan in 1848, to work 80 acres of copper land in the rich Calumet area, of north Michigan. It expanded greatly over the years by buying other lands in the area. The company was stillworking in the 1920s, and had paid a dividend in virtually every year since its formation, thus being the strongest copper mine in the whole U.S.A. Vignette of a train. Two cuts in bottom edge, and trimmed to left border.
