Memphis, TN, USALive Auction
This incredible RCA Record Store poster, used to promote RCA's Gold Standard Series matrix of re-releases of Elvis Presley's Sun catalog, shows a 1955 image of Scotty Moore, Elvis and Bill Black on stage in Beaumont, Texas on June 21, 1955. The two-day concert in Beaumont was a special benefit for the Beaumont Police Department. The black-and-white image on this poster appears beneath the banner "ELVIS with Scotty and Bill in 1956!" However, not only is the image from the 1955 performance, in the image Scotty is playing a Gibson ES (Electric Spanish) 295 which he traded for a Gibson L5 later that year for the recording of "Mystery Train." This unusual poster depicting the 1955 image was acquired from a record store in Indiana, and the owner of the store indicated the poster was from the early- to mid-1960s. Based on the promotion of "Elvis with Scotty and Bill in 1956" and the timing indicated by its original owner, a logical connection can be made to RCA's 1964 Gold Standard Series re-release of Elvis' Sun singles on 45. The poster measures 24 1/2 by 36 inches (62.23 x 91.44 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
Condition Report: The poster exhibits signs of wear at the corners, with minor paper loss, pin holes and wrinkles. The surface of the poster is relatively clean, though, with few distresses. Excellent condition.
