Born in Breslau, Germany, in 1892, [she] first came to the United States in 1910 with the Leamy Ladies, a troupe of trapeze artists. She made her solo debut in the center ring of the Ringling show in 1915. ... A charismatic persona combined with a publicized personal life made Lillian Leitzel an American celebrity ...
