He was responsible for acquiring several important and late Biblical manuscripts from Eastern Orthodox monasteries.

Book Details: The purpose of Curzon's trip was to obtain examples of early manuscripts for a project to illustrate the early history and development of writing. He visited the libraries of ancient monasteries, as well as other out-of-the-way places.
Condition / Notes: This antique volume is handsomely bound in blind-stamped black leather, with stamped gilt decoration/lettering on the front cover and spine. The exterior is largely well preserved, showing only mild edge wear, most evident at the corners. The binding is sound. The pages exhibit light age toning, and some of the preliminaries are lightly foxed. The volume is adorned with marbled endpapers.
This work is illustrated with numerous woodcuts, including a frontispiece view of the great monastery of Meteora.
