Description: 1 May 1858 ROTTERDAM. Aandeel Fl.250. black. No 616. Generally rather worn condition with several edge-splits. First started by two railroad employees who kept a few animals on a railway property just outside the city of Rotterdam. In 1854, they opened the garden to the public. Due to its imminent success, a zoological society was formed and in 1857, this zoological company was founded with a capital of 300.000 guilders (first shares issued 1858). The zoo was destroyed at the outbreak of WWII but they quickly found new premises at Blijdorp, Rotterdam. Still open today. Rare first issue. Rarity 8.
