This antique volume is bound in blue cloth covers with an illustrated title label pasted-down on the front cover and stamped gilt lettering/ornamentation on the spine. There is light rubbing to the exterior, concentrated at the extremities. The binding is solid. The frontispiece depicts an explorer "lost on the ice-cap." The pages show light age toning. The work is profusely illustrated with plates and textual figures depicting the explorers who contributed to the work and their expeditions.
