Description: 1822 ST.PETERSBURG/LONDON. 5% Annuity 6720 Rbls=£1036 Stg. Serie 2. black. No 70823/16621. Rather tired condition with heavy folds, edge-tears (partly repaired), 2 pieces of tape to repair holes, etc. Hand-signed as contractor by Nathan Rothschild, the well-known German Jewish banker, establishing the English branch of the Rothschild House.Only 640 bonds of this top denomination were ever issued and only a handful are known to have survived the almost 200 years since they were first issued. All of these have serious damage but the one we offer here is better than the few others we've had before. Because of its age, the Rothschild link and the high denomination (6720 roubles or £1036 in 1822 would today give you a purchase value of some£3 million), it is one of the most wanted but hardest to find Russian government bonds.Rarity 7.
