Baldwin traveled to many remote corners of the world to visit and observe magicians, witch doctors, and shamans. He became a genuine Mahatma in a secret ceremony in India.

In this work he combines an autobiography of travels with lengthy descriptions and explanations of many magics performed by celebrated mystery makers and magicians in all parts of the world.

There are small closed tears on the final page in the bound margin, slightly affecting the text. This work is profusely illustrated with depictions of magicians and their art.
