Author: Samuel Parker - Samuel Parker was an American missionary in Oregon Country. He scouted locations for missions, including a location for the Whitman Mission in present Washington state and traveled with Marcus Whitman. He was the first Presbyterian missionary in Oregon.

Book Details: From the consignor's notes: Parker relates his observations and experienced while traveling with a fur-trading party from Council Bluffs to Walla Walla. One of the best early accounts of this region of the future U.S. With the original folding "Map of Oregon Territory," dated 1838, widely regarded as the earliest map with any degree of accuracy of the area depicted.
Condition / Notes: This is a stated third edition. This antique volume is bound in blind-stamped brown cloth with stamped gilt lettering to spine. Book shows moderate external wear, with tears at top/bottom of spine and rubbing at outside corners of boards. Front cover displays a few small spots. The binding is firm. The front endpaper displays a moisture marking, and the pages exhibit foxing throughout. Intact map of Oregon territory, showing foxing and small tears, is laid in. Appendix contains a "vocabulary of Indian languages." Volume also has a meteorological table for 1835-6.
