Description: Southwestern USA, Native American, New Mexico, Pueblo peoples, 20th century CE. This is a Pueblo-made wooden painted dancer figure, similar to a katsina (kachina) doll but not from the Hopi tradition. It depicts a dancer, posed with knees crouched and arms slightly raised, one hand holding a blue rattle or mallet with a feather. The dancer is dressed as an eagle, who the Pueblo think of as an intermediary between the powers of the sky. In traditional dances, two young men, dressed as eagles like this doll depicts, dance in such a way as to show the eagle soaring over the landscape, perching, or resting on the ground. Size: 3.65" W x 8.6" H (9.3 cm x 21.8 cm)

Provenance: Ex - Himrod estate, Anaheim, CA

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

#117743

Condition Report: Small hole at the top of the head, as if something is missing (probably an eagle beak). Minor cracking at arm joints. One of the "feathers" made of wood at his head is slightly cracked.
