More About this Item

Description: 5 February 1879 CALIFORNIA. BODIE/SAN FRANCISCO. Shares of $100. black on buff paper. No 902. We have offered very few Bodie shares over the years, and are happy to offer this one now. Vignettes of ore being pushed out of a tunnel entrance, and of a miner. Bodie (Mono County, CA) began as a mining camp of little note following the discovery of gold in 1859. The real boom started in 1876 and transformed Bodie to a major mining town with a population of 5000-7000 people by 1879. Bodie is now an authentic Wild West ghost town at 2,600 metres altitude. Extremely rare.
