LARGE IVORY OKIMONO OF A SCRIBE
POSSIBLY BY SHIMSHO, MEIJI PERIOD
the scribe shown leaning against a tree stump, holding a brush in his right hand and a scroll in his left, wearing long robes incised with cloud and floral motifs, the face with a solemn contemplative expression, the base inlaid with a seal which is now lost
- Good overall appearance with two age cracks to the oval base, one measuring circa 4cm in length
- The signature mark which was inset into the centre of th base is lost
- Minor discoloration and surface dirt as consistent with age
