Description: 2 vol., with 36 double-page colour woodblock prints, each built up of layers of exquisite detail, many with, respectively, gauffrage, the tasteful use of metallic pigments, and delicate burnishing, several with fine brushwork detail, a few with traces of kimetsubushi, each on a theme suggested by the classic Genji monogatari, depicting, respectively, draped or hanging robes or kimonos, beautiful domestic interiors, brightly-coloured furnishings and fabrics, and verdant gardens and landscapes, front endpapers in two colours also from woodblocks, lacking a few tissue guards, a little very faint browning or offsetting, contents bound orihon style in original boards, backed with silk brocade, upper boards paper covered and with title labels, paper lifting in several places, rubbed, brocade a little worn, 4to, Kyoto, Unsodo , 1906. Published in Meiji year 39; part of the (in part parodic) revival in the period for the style and the manners of the Heian court.
