Description: THE FREEMAN. NY: The Freeman Press, March 17, 1920 - March 5, 1924. Complete run, bound into 8 volumes. 13" x 8.5". Bound in navy cloth with spines lettered in gilt. Minor rubbing and wear to cloth, former owner's signatures to free endpapers, some writing in pencil in places throughout (could be erased), one leaf with marginal repair and a few closed marginal tears and minor imperfections, overall quite clean, the whole in Very Good condition. ************************************ A complete run of this short-lived journal from the early 1920s. "The Freeman helped to shape intellectual opinion in America for four years. It forcefully presented another thread in liberalism, claiming a classical liberal and Jeffersonian heritage . . . (Hamilton.) Though the publication consistently lost money over the years, it has become well regarded as one of the better sources on 1920s American libertarian and conservative thought. "As a literary and cultural journal, The Freeman captured much of the vitality and disillusionment of the period in a way that the more programmatic and political journals could not." [Charles H. Hamilton, "American political journalism and the tradition of classical liberalism; The FReeman, 1920-1924"]
