Description: Artist: ADRIEN BARRÈRE (1877-1931) Size: 45 x 61 1/4 in./114.3 x 155.5 cm Imp. Hervé & Maignan, Paris Graphic, immoral, amoral -- the theater of horrors at the legendary Grand Guignol defined the very idea of the gothic grotesque, and the salaciousness of Pigalle, for a half-century. André de Lorde (dubbed "Prince of Fear" by his colleagues) was the main playwright behind the majority of these macabre productions 1901-1926. Little is known about this production of "The Perverted" but the image of a topless, flagellated woman says it all.
