Description: Those electrocuted in the Ohio Penitentiary. There’s a photograph of the chamber with the electric chair, and a drawing of the chair. There are 26 numbered portraits of those electrocuted, with their names, crimes, and dates of execution printed on the verso. The latest is from 1907. This is a “Souvenir” sold for 25 cents by the Ohio Penitentiary Annex. In this period prisons were open to visitors and shown as examples of “enlightened” punishment and reform, and to satisfy the public taste for the gruesome. This is an unusual example of the multiple image.
