Description: 15 December 1898 85 VENDEE. PARIS. Action de F500. purple, yellow. #1600. No 1353. A few small edge tears, repaired and heavy folds. Formed Paris, 1898, by the owners of the casino, to replace a horse-drawn bus service between the railway station and the 'Grand Casino', along the sea-front in the beach resort of Sables d'Olonne (Vendée). The revenues were disappointing, and in 1905 the town bought the company and its assets. The service continued until 1925, when the trams were replaced by buses. One of the prettiest of all French tramway shares. Partly in art nouveau/Jugendstil, showing the arms of the town, a woman in traditional dress by a wide view across the resort and its harbour, the trams by the sea, the fortress by the port. Only this one piece is known to us, and illustrated in the famous "3000 titres Français" reference catalogue published by Guy Cifré in 1985.
