Description: A lion headed sabre with pipe-back blade of "wild" Damascus, half of each side etched and gilt, ricasso marked "Eisenhauer Damaststahl", the decorative gilt obverse etched with a mounted staff trumpeter and a dedication between scroll work (tr.) "[From] the officer corps of II Guard Dragoon Regiment/to Staff Trumpeter Wagner, on your 25th service anniversary, on the 3rd of August 1874". Especially large, non-ferrous metal gilt knuckle bow guard in rich relief with lion-headed pommel, on the obverse languet an applied silver Guard Star, rayskin grip, triple wire wrap (wire somewhat loose). In addition, a light lion headed sabre, the rib blade richly etched on both sides, the ricasso with "Eisenhauer", the spine with "Clemen & Jung, Solingen", each side with etched trophies and vines, obverse dedication (tr.) "Albert Wagner/Staff Trumpeter of 2nd Guard Dragoon Regiment", the other side with (tr.) "In commemoration of the 1870/71 campaign given by A. Rosin Staff Trumpeter in Westphalian Uhlan Regiment No. 5". Non-ferrous metal bow guard gilt and in rich relief (traces of gilding), lion-headed pommel with inset red glass eyes, the obverse languet with two crossed swords, double-wire wrapped ray skin grip. Both sabres are in bright steel scabbards (light rust film) with two brass bands on which are two movable carry rings. Partial slight damage, signs of usage and age. Length 101 and 100 cm. Both sabres are used, in excellent condition and make a beautiful, singular and very hard to find set!
