[Washington, D.C.], September 14, 2001. ********** Two days after the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, which targeted the Pentagon and World Trade Center and killed approximately 3,000 people, five of the country’s six living presidents gathered with other mourners at Washington’s National Cathedral for a National Day of Prayer & Remembrance. Rev. Billy Graham and President George W. Bush spoke to the congregation. It was at this service that all the living presidents except for Ronald Reagan, then in the advanced stages of Alzheimer’s disease and not present, added their signatures to the front page of the New York Times which featured a color image of the World Trade Center bursting into flames below the headline “U.S. Attacked: Hijacked Jets Destroy Twin Towers and Hit Pentagon in Day of Terror.” ********** Signed “above the fold” around the image of the World Trade Center in smoke and flames. In very fine condition but for overall even toning.
