Description: Artist: EDWARD PENFIELD (1866-1925) Size: 21 3/4 x 27 1/2 in./55 x 69.8 cm While occasionally lacking a solid definition, a Victory Girl was typically a young woman or teenager who patriotically offered her services during the war. By World War II, this term would come to be synonymous with a "good time girl”; however, here, it still maintains all the wholesomeness expected in a Penfield poster, simply showcasing a girl rowing her way toward (American) victory amidst the choppy waters. (wwi)
