Description: Vivenzio Giovanni. Istoria e teoria de' Tremuoti in generale ed in particolare di quelli della Calabria, e di Messina del 1783... Napoli: Nella stamperia Regale, 1783. In-4° (mm 217x146). Pagine [8], CCCLXXXIV, 56, con 4 tavole incise in rame fuori testo e più volte ripiegate (di cui 3 raffiguranti il progetto della Casa Baraccata e una con la grande mappa). Ottimo esemplare. Legatura coeva in vitello agli acidi, ai piatti armi impresse in oro con motto 'Ne Quid Nimis', carte di guardia in carta decorata. Edizione originale di questo importante contributo scientifico del Vivenzio. Nell'opera, per la prima volta, si propone la possibilità di creare delle case che resistano ad un terremoto e il Vivenzio propone il progetto della Casa Baraccata, illustrandolo con tre tavole fuori testo. "Observing the survived buildings behaviour it was detected that the structures with wooden connections proved a greater resistance. Therefore the building directives for the construction of new earthquake resistance buildings suggested the employment of an improved building system, inspired from the vernacular technique of Casa Baraccata (masonry buildings with a simple timber frame structure), including at the same time some principles of the 1775 standard of Lisbon gaiola system" (L. Contemporary calf, on the covers engraved coat of arms with motto 'Ne Quid Nimis', decorated paper on the flyleaves. Original edition of this important scientific contribution of the Vivenzio. In the work, for the first time, is proposed the possibility of create houses that can withstand an earthquake and Vivenzio propose the project of the Casa Baraccata, illustrating it with three plates out of text.
