Con 4 litografie a colori incise da Picken. Legatura editoriale in percallina marrone con bordure a secco e fregio in oro agli angoli dei piatti, titolo in oro al dorso. Esemplare in ottimo stato di conservazione. Prima edizione di quest'opera classica dell'età d'oro dell'alpinismo, "récit de trois étés passés dans les Alpes en 1854, 1855 et 1856, en parcourant le Valais, l'Oberland et les environs du Mont-Blanc" (Perret). Le pagine 197-260 (capitoli X-XII) sono dedicate in particolare a Chamonix ed al territorio del Monte Bianco. In fine vi è un'interessante appendice d'argomento glaciologico "in cui l'autore confronta le teorie di Forbes con quella di Tyndall e Huxley, pubblicata quell'anno" (Garimoldi). L'Autore fu uno dei principali alpinisti britannici, noto soprattutto per aver scalato per la prima volta il Weissmies nel 1859 con Leslie Stephen ed esser stato uno dei fondatori e presidente dell'Alpine Club. Perret, 2267. 8°. XVI, [2], 312 pages. With 4 lithographs in color engraved by Picken. Editorial brown percalline with blind-tooled boards and gilt tool on the corner of the covers, gilt title on the spine. Copy in very fine conditions. First edition of this classical work of the golden age of alpinism, "récit de trois étés passés dans les Alpes en 1854, 1855 et 1856, en parcourant le Valais, l'Oberland et les environs du Mont-Blanc" (Perret). The pages 197-260 (chapter X-XII) are dedicated to Chamonix and to the Mont Blanc. At the end there is an interesting appendix of glaciological subject "in cui l'autore confronta le teorie di Forbes con quella di Tyndall e Huxley, pubblicata quell'anno" (Garimoldi). The Author was one of the leading British climbers, famous for having climbed for the first time the Weissmies in 1859 with Leslie Stephen and having been a founder and president of the Alpine Club.
