Description: WASHINGTON, GEORGE. Autograph Manuscript, unsigned, 15-word annotation clipped from a slip of paper: "These are Copies / of Letters from / Hanbury, Cary , &c. / & I believe of no use." 2 1/2x3 1/4 inches; at bottom edge is inscribed in unknown hand "written in 1757," mounted to board, some scattered foxing. Np, [probably after 1759]
Notes: Before dying suddenly in 1757, VA planter Daniel Parke Custis had been married to Martha Dandridge (who became Mrs. Martha Washington in 1759); Custis had engaged two agents in Britain to handle affairs there, John Hanbury & Co. and Robert Cary & Co. Washington had exchanged letters with these agents between 1759 and 1761 while settling the estate of Custis.
