Description: Manuscript letter, signed by William Bingham. October 16, 1796. 2 leaves, 2 1/2 pages.9.5" x 7.75". Front of first leaf and back of last leaf with toning, very small printed paper remnant appears stuck to lower corner of second leaf, several creases as having been folded. ************************************** Among many other accomplishments, William Bingham (1752-1804) was a member of the Continental Congress (delegate from Pennsylvania) from 1786 to 1788, and he served in the Senate from 1795 until 1801. The present letter deals with an arbitration and mentions loan repayment, stocks, and similar subjects. It is written in a rather shrewd and business-like voice quite characteristic of the Bingham we know from history. Bingham was quite successful in business and was one of the wealthiest men in Pennsylvania. His advice was sought by Hamilton in the managing of taxes and forming a national bank.
