Description:
Book Details: This lot consists of the antique volume containing four titles. These titles are as follows:

"An Enquiry How Far the Punishment of Death is Necessary in Pennsylvania," by William Bradford (Philadelphia: Printed by T. Dobson, 1793), 108 pages, Evans 25225.

"The Speech of Mr. Ames, in the House of Representatives of the United States, When in Committee of the Whole, on Thursday, April 28, 1796, in Support of the Following Motion: Resolved, that it is Expedient to Pass the Laws Necessary to Carry into Effect the Treaty Lately Concluded Between the United States and the King of Great-Britain" (Philadelphia: Printed by John Fenno, 1796), 59 pages, Evans 29985.

"A Serious Address to the Youth of Both Sexes in Philadelphia, Upon the Worth of the Soul. Delivered in the University-Hall, to a Crowded Audience of Young People, May 20, 1785" by Elhanan Winchester, no publisher listed, 4 pages.

"An Apology for the Bible, in a Series of Letters, Addressed to Thomas Paine, Author of a Book Entitled 'The Age of Reason, Part the Second, Being an Investigation of True and of Fabulous Theology'" by R. Watson (Philadelphia: Printed by James Carey, 1796), 80 pages, Evans 31571.
Condition / Notes: This antique volume is bound in full leather, with significant rubbing and scuffing to the boards and spine, and a bump to the fore edge. The hinges are cracked, and the text block is significantly cracked between the last page of "The Speech of Mr. Ames" and the first page of "A Serious Address." The endpapers are toned, and display a previous owner's signature on the front flyleaf and ink annotation on the rear paste-down. Toning, foxing, and occasional moisture markings appear throughout the interior. The first page of "A Serious Address" shows a large tear at the bottom edge. A fold-out table is present at the end of "An Enquiry How Far the Punishment of Death is Necessary," charting the statistics of capital crimes in the late eighteenth century.
