Description: being a complete, detailed, and accurate description of the Wild Sports of the East, second edition, 40 hand-coloured aquatint plates, some offsetting, occasional spotting or light foxing, one text f. (pp.439/440) missing, contemporary dark green straight-grain morocco, richly gilt, spine faded, rubbed, discolouration to upper cover, [cf. Abbey, Travel, 427; Tooley 510; Schwerdt p.299], 4to, Edward Orme , n.d. [1819]. " The most beautiful book on Indian sport in existence ." Schwerdt. Apparently an unrecorded variant, this edition published by Orme (publisher of the first edition) whereas the more commonly known issue was published by H.R. Young. This copy has the dedication to George III, not always present, but is as often without the advertisements; this copy also does not have the additional title or frontispiece called for in the standard 2 vol. edition, seemingly only ever bound in one volume. Provenance: bookplate of William Scott Kerr of Chatto.
