Description: FIRST EDITION, one of only 1500 copies initialed by Weston. In the rare original dust jacket in exceptionally good condition. With essays by Robinson Jeffers, Merle Armitage, and Donald Bear. Illustrated with folio reproductions of fifty of Weston's photographs. "Though [50 Photographs] includes all of Weston's genres--landscapes, nudes, still lifes, and portraits--it is an unusual selection, more edgy than iconic... The overall effect... is to make visible the real legacy of Weston's work, the way it influenced so much of what would come after. The 50 photographs are followed by a portrait of Weston himself, taken by his son Cole in Point Lobos in 1946, in which the old man is shown wedged between boulders: alert, watchful, mobile, and as sound as stone" (David Levi-Strauss in?The Book of 101 Books). Roth 128. Open Book 150. ?? New York: Duell Sloan & Pearce, 1947. Folio, original cloth, original dust jacket. Owner bookplate and stamp on front free endpaper; owner stamp also on rear pastedown and at bottom of limitation page. Cloth very clean; dust jacket with light edgewear. An excellent copy in the rare dust jacket - one of the finest examples we?ve seen of the notoriously fragile jacket.
