Description: Item # 2. An American Sterling Silver Soup Tureen. Circa 1830. Hall mark for G. Eoff New York. This tureen weighs 56 oz. It is 10” tall and handle to handle is 12” wide, the bowl opening is 9.5” across. Condition: monogramed: “ From the will of Oliver Wolcott” There is a coat of arms on the lid which states: “God Grant Grace.” Wolcott was the last surviving member of the Washington Cabinet and was the 24th Governor of Connecticut. The covered tureen was left in his will to a distant relative of a surviving member of the family. Condition: small dents consistent with use and age. Garret Eoff, New York, NY (b. 1779-died 1845) Active c. 1805-1845, usually in partnership. The style of decoration and design is typical for Eoff with many examples with similar motifs including the bird claw feet and the grape banding.
