Art Nouveau Pâte-de-Verre Mask by Henri Cros(127 views)
Description: A French Art Nouveau pâte de verre "Masque de femme aux yeux verts" (Mask of a woman with green eyes) by Henri Cros (1840-1907). The piece, based on theatrical masks and effigies of Greek gods and goddesses, reflects the strong influence of Greco-Roman antiquities on the artist. Through his portraits, Cros sought to recreate an ideal of feminine beauty based on archaic visions of women. Cros first exhibited his masks at Siegfried Bing's Salon de l'Art Nouveau in 1890.
