Bronze Seahorse Andirons(37 views)
Description: A pair of seahorse andirons. Brass and Iron. Size: 17” tall x 11” wide and 20” deep. Each weighs 21.5 lbs. We are not familiar with this particular form of andiron and cannot hazard a country of origin. The iron shanks are imbedded into the back of the bronze sea creature bases. The ends of the iron shanks are bent outward. There are chains that are attached to the seahorses mouth extending to the bronze fist attached to the iron shank. One of the chains has become un-attached from the seahorses mouth. The seahorse figures are bolted on the the dolphin like sea creature bases. The dolphin like bases seem to have a gilt bronze patina which is different from the seahorse forms which appear to be brass. The bases appear to be solid bronze or brass. These andirons are very heavy.
