Description: Item # 5485. An American Aesthetic Movement wall clock - Japanese influenced design, circa 1885. Size: 10" x 12.5". Silver and gold plate on brass. A similar themed clock was exhibited in "The Japan Idea - Art and Life in victorian America" at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford in 1990: page 134 - color plate 18b on page 195. Etched into the hand hammered style background is bamboo and a bird. Christopher Dresser influenced pyramid border is shown in the lower section of the scroll like metal parchment design. The numerals on the listed clock are identical to the one exhibited in Hartford. Unmarked but attributed to Reed and Barton - Taunton Massachusetts. The movement appears to be original. The surface of this clock has not been altered and reflects over 125 years of patina. The clock is not operating. $3,850.00
