Carved Wood Gothic Book Stand from San Francisco 1870's(195 views)
Description: A Gothic Walnut Book Stand; not sure where it was made, could be American. . . . Size: 14" wide at the widest and 16" tall. The book shelf is 12.5" wide and 1.25" deep. The spread with the back stand is about 7: from the back (could be shortened or lengthened). Condition: as noted in one of the images the top left gothic decoration was broken and repaired; on the right side as also noted in a photo the bottom trefoil has a slight chip to the edge; the cord attached between the body of the piece and the stand is not period. The screws and hinge on the back may or may not be original; there is a small split on the back strut section at the top where a screw that attaches the hinge has split the wood a little. There is a paper label on the back side: hard to read. Paper labels on 19th century pieces like this are rare. Don't know if this was imported or not: the label seems to imply that it was imported. . . .the SF in the location on the label may be San Francisco.
