Description: The tradition of giving Faberge eggs began in 1884 when the czar gave his wife an egg fabricated by Faberge with a secret treasure inside. In that tradition these finely painted eggs and stands are made out of one block of wood and then lacquered and hand-painted with oil and gold paint. Each features a significant person from Russian history. In order from left to right are: Alexandra wife of Tsar Nikolay II the last Emperor of Russia and friend of Rasputin, Tsar Nikolay II of the Romano family and last Tsar of Russia, Mikhail Fedorovich Tsar of Russia from 1613-1643, Tsar Peter I also Known as Peter the Great, Catherine the Great first a German Princess and later wife to Peter the Great. All of the eggs were painted by M. N. Nadezhdina of Abramtsevo in 1999.
