David Armstrong, Rene at His Apartment on 12th Street, 1980(406 views)
Description: David Armstrong (1954-2014) was a photographer based in New York. Armstrong first received critical attention for his intimate portraits of men, often lovers or friends, in sharp focus. He continued his body of work exploring the often overlapping worlds of gay men, drug addicts, transvestites, fashion models and artists. But Armstrong was best known for unabashed black-and-white close-ups of beautiful young men; again, many of whom were his lovers or objects of his desire. This B&W photo is one such excellent example. It is titled, "Rene at His Apartment on 12th Street." His ability to capture raw intimacy enthralls and fascinates the viewer. His photographs are in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum in New York, the archives of many high-fashion magazines and at least five books of his collected work. He exhibited his work internationally, both in one-man shows and in collections with other members of the Boston Group.
