Donald Sultan, Morning Glories Feb 5 1991, 1991 (Edition of 60)(208 views)
Description: Donald Sultan, b. 1951, is an American contemporary artist based in New York. He is recognized as a painter, printmaker and sculptor; and is perhaps best known for his use of industrial materials to make large-scale compositions of colorful still lifes set against tar-black backgrounds. Sultan?s works are first and foremost abstract, but they make recurring use of lush representational imagery _ such as flowers, lemons, horses, buttons. This Aquatint (edition of 60) depicts ?Morning Glories,? a flower motif that is absolutely signature to the artist?s work. Sultan has shown in galleries and museums all over the world, including The Museum of Modern Art in NY, Tate Modern in London, the Los Angeles County Museum of Modern Art, and the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo. Sultan?s work will also be the subject of an upcoming traveling museum exhibition from 2016-2018 entitled, ?Donald Sultan: The Disaster Paintings.?
