FINE EGYPTIAN REVIVAL EMPIRE STYLE MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCK

This French Empire style longcase clock is crafted of the finest solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, the deep ruby red of the patinated surface glowing under layers of waxes like a polished jewel. It is delightfully embellished with a series of quite fine gilded metal mounts of classical and Egyptian inspiration, the latter being particularly highly sought after by collectors of the period. The triangular crest is solid oak secondary with mahogany veneers and a cockbead molding round the edges, the center mounted with a classical scene of a Putto led in his chariot by two horses through the swirling clouds of the heavens. The crest is easily removable the top, resting loosely in the case over round dowels. The clock case is in two parts, the upper clock case resting on the lower pedestal stand. The clock case is framed in two tapered pillars, each capped by finely cast Egyptian masks and flowing anthemion mounts, the columns terminating over tiny gilt feet. The clock face is symmetrically detailed with foliate spandrels around a white porcelain face with black painted Roman numerals and carefully chased brass at the center and around the edges. A mask of Dionysus hangs as the pendulum in an original wavy glass window. Side doors on either side of the clock open over original hinges to allow access to the clock without moving it. The back of the clock also boasts an upholstered door, opening to broadly reveal the works and interior. The clock rests over a pedestal lower section, crafted of solid mahogany pillars crested by cast bronze palmettos. The back of the clock is heavily oxidized, nearly black in some areas. An original label on the back of the clock reads "Imported from Paris by RJ Horner & Co, Furniture Makers, 61, 63, 65 West 23rd Street, NEW YORK." This is an absolutely gorgeous work of art. For any serious collector of French Empire style furnishings and decorative arts, this is an unusual and very fine selection.
SURFACE: Light veneer losses and cracking, including at the hinges of one side door and along back edges of the case sides; these have some repairs and some wax color matching to areas of loss. Some light cloudiness to surfaces in some areas on sides. Losses around upper molding of the pedestal, most notably to the left corner. Surface behind clock face with some warping/curving. Scratches to top of lower section.
MOVEMENT: Fully functional and currently operates quite nicely - however, this will need to be leveled properly when in your home to hold accurate time. Clock face a bit loose in the case and should eventually be tightened. Name faded from enamel clock face. Retains an early but probably not original winding key.
OTHER: Original glass, fabric on interior with tears, original locks and key, losses to veneer inside of case, crest mount missing several nails with one replaced nail and is "loose" as a result; right Egyptian mask is also slightly loose, one interior screw having lost it's grip; some rosettes and mounts may have been replaced but it is difficult to know for certain.

The item is professionally packaged in-house, palletized and shipped on a tractor trailer with lift gate curbside delivery service. Buyers are notified by the carrier of the delivery date and must make arrangements to receive and inspect the goods (goods left unattended at a residence may not qualify for insurance coverage in the very rare event of damage). Buyers are responsible for unpacking, moving the item into their home and disposing of all packing materials all without assistance from the driver.
* Some areas do not qualify for pre-quoted shipments, including residences with ferry-access, ultra-rural locations, or locations with truck access issues. We reserve the right to disqualify an address from pre-quote under any circumstances upon receiving notification of your delivery address; in these situations, we will offer to simply cancel the order for you, see if a pickup at the nearest freight terminal is a practical option, revise a quote for your approval or offer a quote from a different carrier for your approval.

For a full service two-man indoor delivery, call or email us and we will get a quote from Plycon. Plycon offers a professional and convenient white-glove delivery service that will bring the item into the ground floor room of your choice, unpackaged it for your inspection and remove all packing materials. The item is blanket-wrapped, which we generally find to be the safest and most careful method of shipments. If you select their service, they will contact you directly for payment and insurance election. This service generally costs $350-600 plus insurance depending on the location and shipment size.
FREIGHT DELIVERY (CANADA):
We now offer curbside shipments via common freight carrier to much of Canada! Simply contact us with your delivery address and two phone numbers for a quote. Buyers are responsible for arranging a customs broker and paying all customs/taxes/destination fees where applicable.
IN THE EVENT OF DAMAGE:
Damage is incredibly rare and due to very careful packing and preparation we have been fortunate to see only a small handful of damages. However, we understand the disappointment that can occur in this unlikely event and will work hard to help you through the situation.
Damage for items shipped with USPS, UPS, FedEx or DHL must be reported to us within 24 hours of signature confirmed delivery. We will require the buyer to send us photographs of the packaging and the damage to the item. The buyer will be required to have the item safely packaged again and mailed back to our shop with a pre-paid label. Once we safely receive the item, a refund will be made for the original purchase price plus any shipping via the original payment method.
For pre-quoted common freight carrier shipments, the buyer or representative of the buyer is responsible for being available at time of delivery to fully inspect the packaging and item for damage - under no circumstances should the item be refused, as doing so will void the insurance coverage. In the event of damage, call us immediately and note all damage on the bill of lading while the driver is still present take detailed pictures of the damaged packaging and item, send those images to us and we will assist you in filing the claim and working through the process. Concealed damage must be reported within 24 hours of delivery. In most cases, a representative of the insurance firm will need to inspect the item and packaging so be sure to retain all packing materials. The insurance provider and carrier reserve a "right to repair" a damaged item to industry standard. We do work hard to move claims along as quickly as possible, but please note that claims and/or repairs will be settled with the insurance company and carrier prior to any payout to the buyer.
For shipments with Plycon or any other carrier the buyer selects and pays directly, the terms of that carrier's insurance coverage will apply to the shipment and the buyer will be responsible for working through the claim process with the carrier. We are happy to provide paperwork or any other required documentation to assist in the claim process.
