"Fountain -Trafalgar Square" by Beatrice Stella Pedder(40 views)
Description: Oil on canvas by Beatrice Stella Pedders. This impressionistic rendition of the fountain in Trafalgar Square is signed lower right "B. S. Pedder." The label on the stretcher identifies it as from "James Bourlet & Sons LTD," a leading art dealer in London in the first 3 quarters of the 20th Century eventually acquired by Christie's. The frame dates from the late 1940s or early 1950s. The artist, Beatrice Stella Pedder, was born in 1875 in Clevedon on the coast of England. Her known works include numerous portraits of British military officers, many commissioned by various regiments. She was also noted for her paintings and watercolors of village life in Britain and on the continent, especially in France. Little is available detailing her personal life except that in 1965, at age 90, she wrote an account of her memories for the Clevedon Mercury series "The Annals of Clevedon" where she was referred to as a "gifted watercolor artist."
