Grand Tour Parian Statue of Roman Figure Narcissus(386 views)
Description: A Parian Grand Tour Figure of Narcissus. The original of the Narcissus was discovered in 1862 in a nondescript house in Pompeii and was the last antique statue found in Italy to enjoy considerable fame. In a book sponsored by Chiurazzi & Fils, the Secretary of the Naples Museum, Luigi Conforti, described the figure as the most beautiful bronze to have been discovered at Pompeii, Italy. Our figure is 21” tall and the base is 6.5” diameter. This figure is mostly reproduced in bronze. The white figure in Parian impressed the viewer as if they were looking at a white marble statue which was the intent of the factory that produced this example. Condition: small mars to the white surface and at the back of the neck is an incised and black mar as shown in one of the photos. This form was cast in more than one section. We date this figure sometime between 1880 and 1900. Could be Italian or English
