Description: Bifolium from a Book of Hours featuring "Patris Sapientia Veritas Divina" Floral border frames this beautiful Book of Hours bifolium from Bruges (c. 1450. Border decorated with lovely blue, red, green, orange & gold flowers. 6 2-line initials painted in burnished gold, blue, & red with white tracery. 15 lines of text on each side written in black ink and red rubrics in gothic script on vellum. The text is from the hymn "Patris Sapientia Veritas Divina," the central part of the Hours of the Cross. The Hours of the Cross is a short section of a Book of Hours, often accompanied by a miniature of the Crucifixion. Some smudging to upper border of second page and minor discoloration. Size: 157 x 104 mm (approx 6.3 x 4.0 inches) The text in Latin from the "Patris Sapientia Veritas Divina" beginning at the initial "C" on the second page (initials in blue) Crucifige clamitant hora tertiarum illusus induitur veste purpurarum. Caput eius pungitur corona spinarum : Crucem portat humeris ad locum penarum. Adoramus te xpriste et benedicimus tibi. Quia per sanctam crucem tuam redemisti mundum. Domine ihesu xpriste filii dei vivi pone passionem crucem et mortem tuam inter iudicium tuum et animam meam nunc et in hora mortis mee et largiri digneris vivis misericordiam et gratiam defunctis requiem et veniam ecclesie tue sancte pacem et concordiam et nobis peccatoribus vitam et letitiam sempiternam. Qui vivis et regnas deus. Per omnia secula seculorum. De cruce deponitur hora vespertina fortitudo latuit in mente divina. Talem mortem subiit vite medicina. Heu corona glorie iacuit spina.
