Jeremy Blake, Berkshire Fangs, 2001(97 views)
Description: Jeremy Blake (1971-2007) was an American digital artist and painter. After gaining the art world's attention in the 1990s with large scale, semi-abstract digital C-prints, he then began to animate sequences of these images to create continuously looping digital video works. They were meant to emulate paintings and film. Blake's aesthetically stylized works addressed a range of subjects from violence and terrorism to glamour and decadence, from metaphors of architectural spaces to profiles of cultural personifications. He was a narrative abstractionist who embraced history, pop culture, biography and fiction, and he always made things to be beautiful. His works are seductive; his subjects are provocative; his meanings are profound. This work of art, entitled, "Berkshire Fangs" is a 16 minute continuous loop of digital animation with sound on DVD. There is a Master DVD disk that is titled, dated, numbered and signed by the artist, along with a reciprocally editioned Collector's Viewing disk that is to be used for playing. Both disks are in specially designed cases. The artwork is accompanied by a certificate, as well. The certificate is written and issued by Feigen Contemporary, NYC; and is signed and dated (01.15.02) by the artist. Also included is the storyboard for the animation that is printed on archival paper for keeping as it is or possible framing. The storyboards highlight the visual sequences in Blake's work and this serves as a reference. Blake's works have been exhibited internationally. They were included in three Whitney Biennials, are represented in many museum collections.
