Judy Rifka, Pyramids, 1983(309 views)
Description: Judy Rifka, b. 1945, is an American artist. What characterizes her career above all is an acute sense of humor, and openness to chance. She does so by combining painterly gesture, explorations of space, and pop culture. In the late 1970s, Rifka was a founding member of the New York-based artist collective Colab, and a leading figure in the No Wave movement. Her mediums have varied from painting, to print, to video and to sculpture. In addition to using shaped canvases and three-dimensional stretchers, she is known for unstretched works, with collaged, cut-away layers of canvas and color. This painting titled, "Pyramids," is from the early 1980's. It's subject and extremely textured surface is signature to Rifka's work. This piece is 26 x 31 inches; and it comes framed. Judy Rifka's career spans over 50 one-person shows and countless group exhibitions; her work can be seen in numerous public collections in museums and foundations, throughout the United States and Europe.
